TAYLOR’S UNIVERSITY AND MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL STEPPED INTO A STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP FOR STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

Taylor’s University and Marriott International sealed a talent development partnership on 6 June 2018, in It’s aspiration to groom future hoteliers. Marriott International being the world largest hotel chain and one of world’s top ranked Institution in hospitality and leisure management, Taylor’s University, recently signed a strategic partnership in this direction.

Twenty nine selected students pursuing Bachelor in Hospitality Management (Hons) at Taylor’s University will join the Marriot International under Taylor’s unique Student Employment Programme (STEP), with an ultimate aim of securing a job at the world’s leading hospitality company even before they graduate.

During the memorandum of understanding ceremony held at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus, Professor Dr Pradeep Nair, Taylor’s University Deputy Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer shared that this partnership will greatly benefits all parties involved, especially the students.

“The hospitality industry is the largest industry in the world and hires the most employees every year. In addition, tourism is the number one or two industry for every country in the region. STEP students will have a 2 years head start and would be able to continue working after graduation around the globe and have rewarding careers.

The industry on the other hand have the best opportunity to map their long-term recruitment plans and secure top-of-the-class talents from Taylor’s University, from all over the world, to be part of their organization’s talent pipeline,” he shared.

Under the STEP initiative, students will be exposed to first-hand industry insight from their second years onwards, which is extremely relevant to their future career while receiving the best in hospitality management education from Taylor’s University.

Marriot International Area Vice President for Singapore, Malaysia & Maldives, Ms. Rivera Delgado, who was present at the signing ceremony shared her invaluable experience in achieving a successful and rewarding career in the hospitality industry.

“We are happy to be receiving Taylor’s University students into our hotels. This partnership will play an integral role in assisting to grow our talent pipeline and develop young students to be our future hotelliers. I hope to see Taylor’s students in all our 6,500 hotels worldwide,” said Delgado.

Taylor’s Univeristy, Faculty of Hospitality, Food & Leisure Management’s Executive Dean Dr. Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan said this is an excelent opportunity for our students to immerse into the Industry. “Since STEP was initiated in 2010, a total of more than 250 students from over 15 countries have participated in the programme. Out of which, 75% have been employed for a management-level position upon graduation around the world, while the rest chose to be entrepreneurs by opening their own boutique hotel and restaurant business with some opting for other ancillary service industry such as banking, Insurance, technology sectors etc.” he added.

The signing ceremony was also attended by 25 top hotelliers comprising of Vice-Presidents, General Managers and Director of various Marriott International brands such as Aloft, Le Meridien, The Ritz-Carlton, Four Points by Sheraton, Westin, Renaissance, Sheraton Imperial, St. Regis and W Hotel among others.
